Shivraj Singh-led Madhya Pradesh cabinet on Wednesday passed a landmark bill proposing to assure housing for each and every citizen in the state. The proposed law guarantees house or a piece of land for the landless families.

Briefing the media on the one of its kind bill in India, Minister for Public Relations Narottam Mishra said, “At today’s meeting, chaired by the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the cabinet has given its nod to the proposal of enactment of a law that would guarantee house or a piece of residential land to the poor sections of the society.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship housing scheme ‘Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojna’ aims to provide affordable houses to all those living below the poverty line by the year 2022.

At the launch, Modi said that his government is dedicated to poor people and all its scheme is for them. “We launched Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna so that people can open bank account. Today I launched Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojna so that poor people can have a house,” said Modi.
