Lord Shiva is known as the matchmaker God. As per Hindu beliefs, a girl who fasts for Lord Shiva, especially on the 16 Mondays of Saawan (Solah Somwar) and on Shivratri, gets a perfect groom for herself and even doesn’t have to wait much to get married.
Even in today’s advanced world, where things have gone all digital, women still believe that fasting can get them a ‘manchaha var’. Despite being educated and advanced, many girls just can’t do away with the traditional and methodological beliefs when it comes to marriage.
It is believed that girls get married early if they please Lord Shiva by keeping fasts, but who wants to get married early these days? Most of the girls today are getting married after 30. This is because in a world where we talk about gender equality, girls do not want to be left behind – they are ambitious, they are career-oriented, they do not want to live in boundation.
And getting married is not a big deal today, thanks to the dating and match-making websites, where people are actually finding their perfect match. Moreover, parents today are not that narrow-minded and allowing their sons and daughters to get married to the one they love.
I will call it a myth. Fasting can never help you get a perfect match. No offense, but that’s what I believe. What about those who keep fast, then get married (we all get married with our own choice whether we keep fast or not) and later have issues with their partners and then get separated? It's all about how compatible you are in a relationship. A good understanding makes your marriage work, not fasting!
And what about the girls belonging to other religions? Don’t they get a perfect match? Don’t they live a happy married life? To get married early or to find the right person – it all depends on you and only you.
