In a shocking case, a class X student on Monday attempted suicide by consuming a poisonous substance outside the official residence of the SP after she was allegedly raped repeatedly by her maternal uncle and was forced into a settlement by the village panchayat when she lodged a police complaint over the issue.
The girl, who is a resident of Kaithal's Dayora Khurana, was living with her maternal uncle in a village under Sadar Police Station area, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Captain Singh said.
The uncle had been repeatedly raping her following which a month ago she lodged complaint at Woman Police Station against him but she was forced into a settlement by the village panchayat, he said. However, her uncle continued to rape her and also tried to kill her.
The girl consumed some posionous substance in front of the residence of the Superintendent of Police and was admitted to a hospital in a critical condition from where she was referred to PGI, Rohtak. On receiving information about the incident, the DSP, Women Police Station in-charge Santosh Singh and other officials reached the hospital. The police registered a case of rape against the maternal uncle after recording the victim's statement. Raids are being carried out to nab the accused, Singh added.
