Shujaat Bukhari Murder: Pakistani among 3 killers identified

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday identified the attackers behind the killing of journalist Shujaat Bukhari on June 14, as per media reports.

The police report, quoting police sources said that one attacker is a Pakistani national while other two are from South Kashmir.

“We have identified the attackers,” a top police officer told a leading media daily. “Two of them are local militants from south Kashmir while the third one is from Pakistan”.

The Pakistani militant involved in the attack is Naveed Jatt, who is an associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and had escaped from police custody from Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) hospital in February this year, the report stated.  

The police have also identified the Pakistan-based blogger who had started a smear campaign against Bukhari. The report states that the blogger is a militant from Srinagar, who is currently settled in Pakistan.

Shujaat Bukhari, a senior journalist and Cheif Editor of Rising Kashmir, was killed on June 14 by three men outside his Srinagar office. Two of Bukhari's PSOs were also killed in the attack.
