A Singapore-bound plane on Sunday made an emergency landing at the Chennai airport after "cargo smoke warning". Taking a precautionary measure, the pilot of the flight - TR 567 of Scoot Airways - diverted the plane to Chennai International Airport.

"Scoot flight TR567, operating Tiruchirappalli-Singapore on 20 May 2019, diverted to Chennai International Airport, as a precaution, due to a cargo smoke warning trigger," the airline said in an official statement.

All the 161 passengers and crew members, who were onboard the plane when the incident occurred, were disembarked safely. They were provided accomodation and meal at city hotels. The flight was currently grounded at Chennai airport for investigations. Preliminary assessments by a technical team indicated that the cargo smoke warning was a false alarm.

"The aircraft landed safely in Chennai at approximately 3.41am local time. The aircraft has been grounded for investigations and preliminary assessment indicates a false warning," Scoot Airways said.

However, the airline mounted a replacement flight to Chennai to transport the passangers back to Singapore. It is scheduled to depart from Chennai at 3:30 pm today. The flight had taken off from Tamil Nadu’s Tiruchirapalli (Trichy) and was enroute to Singapore.
