Six passengers were killed and over 40 others injured on Sunday when a bus fell into a gorge in Palghar district of Maharashtra, an official said. The incident occurred at around 2:45 pm in Torangane ghat between Mokhada and Trimbakeshwar villages, said Thane Region Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) chief Santosh Kadam.
The private bus was headed towards Palghar and had started from Nashik in north Maharashtra, he said.
The injured have been rushed to the Trimbakeshwar primary health centre, he said, adding that the condition of some of them is serious. Further details are awaited.
The incident took place almost two months after four people were killed a in a truck-bus collision in Gadchiroli. Earlier, on December 9, 2018, at least 11 people were killed and 4 others critically injured after a truck rammed into a tempo.
According to the data released by the State Transport Ministry, a total of 13,059 persons died in road accidents in Maharashtra in 2018. The numbers were 12,935 and 12,511 in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
