Former Congress minister SM Krishna who was likely to join BJP on Wednesday has left for Bengaluru from Delhi, after his sister passed away.

Krishna was to meet BJP leaders in Delhi and likely to be inducted into BJP today. The 84-year-old Krishna had announced his resignation from the Congress on January 29, saying the party was in a “state of confusion” on whether it needs mass leaders or not.

Krishna, who was Karnataka chief minister from 1999 to 2004, had returned to state politics after stepping down as the minister for external affairs in 2012. He had also served as Governor of Maharashtra.

Karnataka BJP President B S Yeddyurappa had announced Krishna’s forthcoming induction in his speech during a rally earlier.
