Union Minister Smriti Irani took to social media on Thursday to show her followers an easy way to make homemade masks. She posted series of Instagram stories showing different stages of stitching a face mask. She also shared these pictures on Twitter.
"You can also make reusable masks using a needle and thread," wrote Smriti Irani on Twitter.
The Union Health Ministry had issued an advisory asking people to wear homemade face covers to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. Several states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and cities like Mumbai and Delhi have made it mandatory for people to wear masks or face covers while stepping out of their houses. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also urged BJP workers to produce and wear homemade face masks.
The government is working hard to supply N-95 non-medical masks to medical professionals, patients or people at high risk. These masks are considered an essential precaution against the novel coronavirus. However, despite these efforts, there is an actute shortage of these masks.
The government has requested ordinary citizens across the country to not buy or use N-95 masks but use homemade masks instead.
