Congress president Rahul Gandhi's press conference in Parliament on Tuesday, where he said that the Opposition "would not allow Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sleep" until all farm loans are waived off,” had backfired and drawn a lot of negative criticism on social media. Before his statement to the media, the Congress president was seen nodding as colleague Jyotiraditya Scindia leaned in and advised him on what to say. "You need to say what Modi could not do, I have done," Jyotiraditya Scindia audibly said, adding, “... and don't ask for Centre's assistance..." The video that was highlighted by many TV channels and also on social media. Wasting no time, Union minister Smriti Irani seized the opportunity and tweeted, “These days, does one need tuition even to dream (sic).”

"Rahul Gandhi takes tuition to dream and the current video shows that he doesn't trust his own words but he relies on others who teach him what to speak. It is a warning for the people of this country to know that he is not eligible for any electoral post," Smriti Irani was quoted as telling ANI news agency.

Rahul Gandhi cited the loan waiver by newly formed Congress governments in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh as an example for the prime minister to give a reprieve to farmers in Parliament and was surrounded by Congress veterans Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ahmed Patel and Abhishek Manu Singhvi, all of whom chipped in with inputs.

Another video of Rahul Gandhi was also shared widely on social media on Tuesday where he is asked by reporters to comment on the loan waivers announced by the states the Congress won last week."Dekha aapne? Aapne dekha? Shuru ho gaya na kaam? (You see? Haven't we started work?)," the Congress president quipped.

Within hours of the swearing-in ceremony, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced loan waiver for farmers in their respective states on Monday. The third state, Rajasthan, where the Congress party formed the government, will also do it soon, Rahul Gandhi told reporters.

The Congress chief termed his party’s victory in the recent Assembly elections “win of farmers” and promised that all the Congress-ruled states will waive farm loans. Rahul Gandhi claimed that the prime minister was only concerned about his 15 industrialist friends and didn’t waive off a single rupee of the poor farmers.

"On one side you have farmers, poor, youth, small traders and on the other, you have the country's top 15 industrialists. He put Rs 3,5000 crore in their pockets. "We won't let Modi ji sleep or rest or sit in peace until we make him waive farmers' loans," he vowed.
