Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Friday said that her son and vice-president Rahul Gandhi will soon be elevated to position of party chief.
Sonia was speaking after the launch of former President Pranab Mukherjee's new book, 'The Coalition Years: 1996-2012,' in Delhi.
"You have been asking this for so many years and it's now happening," Sonia Gandhi said to NDTV.
As per reports, the Congress Working Committee will be meeting soon to decide the dates for the election of a new president.
Sonia Gandhi has been serving as Congress's president for the last 19 years.
There has been reports that Rahul will be elevated to party’s president position after Diwali.
Many state units of Congress party have passed resolution to elect Rahul Gandhi as president.
State units of West Bengal, Haryana, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand have endorsed elevation of Rahul as party president.
