New Delhi:

Congress president Sonia Gandhi is scheduled to meet party leaders on Saturday to fix dates for Congress Working Committee’s (CWC) meeting where Rahul Gandhi will be declared president-elect. Congress president Sonia Gandhi will chair the meeting on Saturday.

Rahul is presently holding the post of Congress vice president. If sources are to be believed, party will set October 24 as date of CWC meeting to elect Rahul Gandhi as president-elect.

The CWC has the powers to elect the party president as it is highest decision-making body. The CWC has 10 elected members and 10 nominated members, in addition to special invitees.

As per reports, Congress party is expected to elect Rahul Gandhi as president unanimously.

Sonia Gandhi has been serving as Congress's president for the last 19 years.

Many state units of Congress party have passed resolution to elect Rahul Gandhi as president.

State units of West Bengal, Haryana, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand have endorsed elevation of Rahul as party president.
