Six teenagers were killed and one battling for life after a speeding train hit them near Hapur crossing  in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad in the early hours of Monday.

According to locals, the teenagers were walking across the railway track with their headphones plugged in ears when the train hit them.

Police said that all the the victims aged between 14 years and 16 years. They were daily wage labourers and worked as painters and helpers.

According to police, all the seven teenagers were friend and they were walking back home after missing a train for Hyderabad. The six deceased have been identified as Vijay, Salim, Akash, Arif, Sameer and Rahul.

Soon after the incident agitated locals blocked the railway track. They protesters claimed that the area is poorly lit and they take the train tracks as shortcut. “There is no warning when trains arrive,” added the protesters.
