The Sri Lankan Navy on Sunday arrested 10 Tamil Nadu fishermen claiming they were allegedly fishing near Neduntheevu, which is close to the island nation’s coast.
The fishermen were arrested from Nagapattinam district allegedly for fishing close to the island nation’s waters. They were taken to Karainagar along with their boat by the Lankan Navy, Deputy Director of Fisheries - Karaikal, Perumal Pillai said.
For the past 10 days, the Tamil Nadu fishermen were reportedly staying in the deep sea area. A local Lankan fisherman’s complaint led to their arrest, he added.
Earlier, 4 fishermen from Tamil Nadu were taken into custody by the Lankan Navy on October 5 while they were fishing off Neduntheevu.
