One of the arrested accused in Bhagalpur Srijan scam, Mahesh Mandal, on Monday succumbed to cancer in a hospital. The doctors informed that his kidneys were damaged.

RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav wrote on Twitter that the deceased, Mahesh Mandal, was father of a rich leader of Janata Dal (United). 

On August 18, the members of a parliamentary panel had raised the issue of an alleged scam involving an NGO in Bihar and had asked the officials of a bank to look into the matter.

During a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance at Udaipur, Rajasthan, BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey and Ajay Sancheti had raised the issue of the alleged scam, involving the NGO, Srijan, a member of the panel, who was present at the meeting, said on the condition of anonymity.

The members of the committee had also asked the officials of a bank to investigate the matter, he had  added.

The panel had raised the issue a day after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had recommended a CBI probe into the alleged swindling of government funds to the tune of over Rs 950 crore by the NGO at Bhagalpur in Bihar.

The NGO has also allegedly siphoned off the money of certain nationalised banks. The cases lodged in this regard had been investigated by the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the Bihar police.

The Bihar police had issued a lookout notice against the secretary of the NGO and her husband.
