New Delhi :

Rajya Sabha (RS) MP and firebrand BJP leader Subramanian Swamy took to Twitter and said that he will soon write to the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi about how he perceives Aadhaar to be a threat to national security.

Swamy expressed hope that the Supereme Court will strike it down when larger constitution bench takes up the matter.

Swamy's statement comes a day after Supreme Court referred a batch of petitions challenging the Centre's move to make Aadhaar mandatory for availing benefits of various social welfare services.

The bench of judge consisted of Chief Justice Deepak Mishra, Justice AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud. The apex court also pulled the West Bengal government challenging the centre's attempt to make Aadhaar mandatory for availling benefits of social welfare schemes.

Recently, a nine-judge constitution bench of the apex court had held that Right to Privacy was a Fundamental Right under the Constitution.
Several petitioners challenging the validity of Aadhaar had claimed it violated privacy rights. In a note to the court, the government had said that "those who have Aadhaar are required to seed/link their

Aadhaar with SIM card, with bank account, PAN card and other schemes where section 7 notifications have been issued".Earlier on Tuesday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of unleashing an "autocratic rule and destroying the federal structure" of the country and opposed linking of Aadhaar with mobile phone number.

"They (Centre) are interfering in the people's rights and privacy. The Aadhaar number should not be linked with one's mobile phone. I will not link my Aadhaar number with my mobile even if my connection is snapped," she said at the extended core committee meeting of the Trinamool Congress.
