Days ahead of his appearance before a Delhi court, Congress parliamentarian Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday moved the Patiala House Court seeking anticipatory bail in wife Sunanda Pushkar death case.
The court, taking note of Tharoor’s anticipatory bail plea, said that it will take up the matter for consideration at 10 am on Wednesday.
“SIT categorically stated in the charge sheet that probe is concluded and no custodial interrogation of any person is reqd. Law is very clear that if charge sheet is filed without arrest, bail is inevitable. Matter fixed for consideration at 10 am tomorrow,” ANI quoted Tharoor’s lawyer as saying.
The Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram (or Trivandrum) is charged with abetting the suicide of his wife. He has been summoned by the trial court on July 7 as an accused.
Tharoor’s wife, according to the charge sheet filed by Delhi police in May, committed suicide by overdosing on antidepressant pills. Police has named Tharoor as an accused in the case.
Pushkar was found dead in a five-star hotel in Delhi on January 17, 2014. Police, initially, treated the case as murder but letter termed it suicide after it failed to gather evidence to support its previous claim.
Tharoor, however, termed the police charge sheet “preposterous and baseless” and said that charges against him in his wife’s death case were the product of "malicious & vindictive campaign" against him.
