The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Justice DN Patel as the next Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. Patel will replace current Chief Justice Rajendra Menon, who will retire from the post in June this year. The collegium had passed a resolution in this regard on May 10.
“Mr. Justice D.N. Patel is a senior puisne Judge from Gujarat High Court and at present is functioning, on transfer, in Jharkhand High Court. Having regard to all relevant factors, the Collegium is of the considered view that Mr. Justice D.N. Patel is suitable in all respects for being appointed as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. The Collegium resolves to recommend accordingly,” the resolution stated.
Justice DN Patel was born in March 1960. He pursued his graduation in Science from Govt. Science College, Jabalpur under Rani Durgawati University.
After graduation, he obtained LLB from NSE Law College (Jabalpur) in 1984. Subsequently, he completed his LLM in 1986 while he was also practicing in the Gujarat High Court. Currently, he is serving in the Jharkhand High Court and previously was a senior puisne Judge in the Gujarat High Court.
