The Supreme Court Collegium on Friday reiterated Uttarakhand High Court Chief Justice KM Joseph's name for elevation as a Supreme Court judge.

"Supreme Court Collegium reiterates the name of Uttarakhand HC Chief Justice KM Joseph to be appointed to the Supreme Court," the news agency ANI reported.

On April 26, the Centre returned Joseph's file back to the Collegium questioning his seniority among HC judges and asked to reconsider the recommendation.

The Supreme Court in May, however, had agreed to appoint Justice KM Joseph as a Supreme Court judge but could not decide the date for pressing for his name to the Center.

Post that, Supreme Court Judge Justice Jasti Chelameswar's resignation had delayed the elevation of Joseph as a Supreme Court judge. Chelameswar's exit led the SC Collegium's structure and chemistry to be reconstructed again with Justice AK Sikri entered in the five-member Collegium.

Apart from Joseph, other High Court judges, whose names recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium this afternoon, are Orissa High Court Chief Justice Vineet Saran and Madras High Court Chief Justice Indira Banerjee.

The Collegium also recommended appointment of Justice Gita Mittal as the Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court and Aniruddha Bose as the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court. While Mittal is currently serving as the Acting Chief Justice of Delhi HC, Bose holds the position of a senior Judge at Calcutta High Court.

On the other hand, the name of Justice Hrishikesh Roy of Guwahati HC and acting Chief Justice of Kerala High Court were recommended for the appointment as the Chief Justice of Kerala HC.

Bombay High Court Justice VK Tahilramani's name was recommended for the appointment as the Chief Justice of Madras High Court - post the elevation of Justice Indira Banerjee as a Supreme Court judge.
