The Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved its verdict on a PIL challenging M Nageswara Rao's appointment as the interim director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The petition filed by NGO Common Cause also sought transparency in the process of short-listing, selection and appointment of the CBI director. In January, Rao, who in December was promoted to the rank of additional director, was handed over the charge of CBI interim chief till the appointment of a new director. The development came after a high-powered committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi removed Alok Kumar Verma as CBI chief on charges of corruption and dereliction of duty.
"Supreme Court agrees to hear next week a plea filed against M Nageswara Rao's appointment as interim Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), plea also sought transparency in the process of short-listing, selection and appointment of the CBI Director," the news agency ANI reported.
