The Supreme Court on Thursday sought response from Election Commission on a PIL seeking to conduct upcoming Gujarat assembly elections through VVPAT machines. Election Commission has been given time of four weeks to file an affidavit.
The issue of EVM tampering has caused need to for such a move. Many political parties have raised their concerns over possibility of tampering. In response, the Election Commission had organized hackathon where no party had participated in it.
The Gujarat elections are scheduled in later in the year and it will end on 22 Jan 2018. The fourteenth legislative assembly election will be held in 2017 to elect members of the 182 constituencies in Gujarat.
