Union minister Sushma Swaraj’s husband and former Supreme Court lawyer Swaraj Kaushal on Tuesday stirred a row with his controversial tweet on marital rape.
Kaushal, who was also served as the Governor of Mizoram, in his tweet said that there is nothing like marital rape. “There is nothing like marital rape. Our homes should not become police stations,” he said.
His tweet was in reference to an ongoing hearing on criminalisation of marital rape in the Delhi High Court.
Hours before this controversial remark on marital rape, he tweeted that “There will be more husbands in the jail, than in the house.”

His tweets created an online stir among Twitter users with many criticising him for his remarks and asked whether he is defending marital rape. On seeing the backlash on social media, he again tweeted that he is going to lock his account to restore decorum of the dialogue. “If you want to post abuses, please rush. Take screen shots. I am going to lock this account to restore decorum of the dialogue,†he posted on his Twitter account.
