Suspected militant linked to Dhaka café attack detained from Kolkata

Police have detained a suspected member of a banned Islamist group blamed for last year's Dhaka café attack from a hideout in Kolkata.

According to media reports, the suspect, Mohammed Idris, is a member of the reconstituted Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (neo-JMB) and was hiding in state capital's Burrabazar area.

Reports say that a team from the Delhi Police had arrived in the West Bengal capital to look for the Bangladeshi citizen who was reportedly hiding in the locality. 

The operation was carried out with the help of Kolkata Police following specific inputs about the whereabouts of the suspect.

In an attack on the Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan area of Dhaka, in July last year, over 20 people, including an Indian national, were killed.

The attack sparked a massive outrage in the country following which the Bangladesh government initiated a major crackdown on the Islamists involved in militant activities.
