A huge posse of police personnel has been deployed at the Haryana-Punjab border in view of INLD’s threat that its workers will gather at Ambala on Thursday for digging the Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal.
Inspector General of Police (Ambala Range) R C Mishra on Tuesday reviewed the security arrangements made to prevent any untoward incident at the border near Ambala City.
“The Haryana Police has deployed a large number of personnel at the border to handle the situation on February 23,” he said.
“The INLD workers will assemble at a vegetable market close to Ambala City and march towards Punjab to dig the SYL canal,” the party said.
The Punjab Police has also made adequate arrangements at the border.
Punjab Police officials said they would not allow INLD workers to enter the state and take the law into their hands.
Mishra said the Haryana Police is in touch with its Punjab counterpart and keeping a close watch on the situation.
Meanwhile, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said the INLD’s decision to dig the SYL canal is mere a “political drama”. “The INLD did not make any attempt to put pressure on Punjab to give Haryana its share of water when it was in power,” he said.
“The BJP would welcome the INLD leaders if they succeed in digging the entire SYL canal in Punjab area,” the minister said.
