The State Election Commission in Tamil Nadu is likely to present specific details of stalled civic polls before Madras High Court on Tuesday. The civic polls in Tamil Nadu has been stalled and are likely to be held by May 15.

Earlier, the civil polls were scheduled in two phases on October 17 and 19. But, the polls were extended due to legal implications. Justice N Kirubakaran quashed the September 26 poll notification on the grounds of major mistakes in it.

Justice N Kirubakaran concluded that the poll notification was vitiated since it did not comply with mandatory Tamil Nadu Panchayat (Election) Rules, 1995 with regard to delimitation of constituencies and reservation of seats for women.

Justice Kirubakaran had ordered the SEC to issue fresh notifications and complete the election process by December 31, 2016.
