DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran on Tuesday launched a blistering attack on the Tamil Nadu government, terming it the “most corrupt” and the ruling AIADMK a “slave” of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Speaking during a debate in the Lok Sabha on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address, Maran asked the BJP to “introspect” as to why people of Tamil Nadu rejected it during the recent Lok Sabha elections.
The DMK MP said that the strength of the ruling BJP lies in “opposition’s weakness”. Maran’s criticism of the AIADMK drew protests from the BJP, who claimed that the DMK leader can’t use “offensive” words against the state government or raise such issues while speaking on the President’s address.
Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal objected to Maran’s remarks when he took a jibe at the BJP, saying that it is the duty of the master to take care of slaves. The DMK member accused the BJP of misusing probe agencies like the CBI and ED, and also the Election Commission.
Referring to the serious water crisis in the state, especially in its capital Chennai, he said the state government remained complacent and did nothing to address the impending crisis. President Ram Nath Kovind spoke against corruption in his address, Maran said, alleging that Tamil Nadu has the most corrupt government.
“The pre-monsoon rain is the lowest in the last 65 years. Water supply in the four reservoirs supplying water in Chennai has dropped below 1 %. We are going through a severe water crisis.
"A similar situation took place in 2004 then Karunanidhi decided to set up a desalination unit and UPA government sanctioned 1000 crores for a desalination plant to be implemented in Chennai. But central's ally AIADMK is complacent,” he said.
