A 15-year-old boy was allegedly kidnapped and later his body was found in a carton box near Secunderabad railway station after the “abductors” made a ransom call for Rs 10 crore, police said today.
Abhay, a class 10 student, had gone to bring tiffin from a hotel last night, but he did not returned. His mobile phone was also found switched off. Later, his father enquired with his relatives and lodged a complaint with Shahinayath Gunj police station, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Zone) Venkateshwara Rao said.
“A missing case was registered and a probe was launched. At around 10 PM, one of the relative of Abhay received a phone call that threatened and demanded a ransom of Rs 10 crore for the boy’s safe release,” the DCP said.
As the police started to trace the call, police received an information that body of a boy was found in a carton box near Secunderabad railway station, Rao said, adding “the hands were tied and he seems to have been smothered to death.”
“The victim’s father was informed. However, he has not raised suspicion on anyone with regard to enmity with his family nor business rivalry. We are collecting details and further investigation is underway,” Rao said.
