Tejashwi Yadav Slams Nitish Kumar Over Patna Flood, Seeks Resignation

Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, on Sunday slammed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the recent water-logging in Patna, saying it not only exposed the failure of the drainage system but also the corruption involved in it. He also stressed it is not a natural calamity and therefore the chief minister should immediately resign taking full responsibility for the situation.

“This isn't a natural calamity. During floods, the administration could not even find maps of the city. Nitish Kumar talks of development, but where is development? How is Patna a smart city then? Nitish Kumar should take responsibility and resign,” Tejashwi was quoted as saying by ANI.

The RJD leader also termed as ‘shameful’ Kumar’s blaming of ‘nature’s fury’ and ‘Hathiya Nakshatra’ (constellation) for the flood in the city.

“The entire city has been inundated with rainwater. It is a complete failure of the drainage system and tells about the huge scam (involved in it),” the former deputy chief minister, told reporters on Saturday.

Several parts of Patna, state’s capital, were inundated following downpour for three consecutive days from September 27 onwards.

“Now, Nitish Kumar is saying that the inundation happened because of nature’s fury and hathiya nakshatra...it is a shameful statement,” he said.

Officers responsible for the deluge have suddenly disappeared, the RJD leader said, adding they are either abroad or have taken “sanyas” (renunciation).

The former deputy chief minister termed the ongoing war of words between the BJP and the JDU as “a fight between animals”.
