A major controversy has erupted over Telangana BJP lawmaker Soyam Bapu Rao’s remarks that he “will behead Muslims who are harassing Adivasi (tribal) women on the state.
Accusing that Muslims are targeting Adivasi women of tribal districts of the Telangana, Soyam Bapu Rao - newly elected BJP lawmaker from Adilabad Lok Sabha seat – said that it won’t be tolerated.
His remark has now sparked a controversy with Minority leaders filing a complaint against him. Congress minority cell district president Sajid Khan has filed the complaint with Adilabad ASP Kancha Mohan demanding that the BJP leader should take back his words.
“Despite being an MP, Bapu Rao was making wrong allegations and his comments are against the minority community,” Sajid Khan was quoted as saying by a report in India Today.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi's M Krishank has hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi after Soyam Bapu’s controversial remark. "Even though PM Modi says Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, his own MP has made such a comment in a desperate bid to enter Telangana," he said.
This is not the first time a BJP lawmaker has targeted Muslims. Last year, Ambedkar Nagar BJP MP Hari Om Pandey had triggered a controversy by saying that ‘cases of heinous crime such as rape and murder are rapidly increasing due to the growing Muslim population in India.'
