The official website of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was hacked on March 5. Ten days on, the website still remains under “maintenance” mode.

IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad admitted on Tuesday that the website was hacked for a few minutes last week. “There are rogue elements in the society. The site was hacked only for a few minutes. We got back control very soon,” Prasad said at the “Digital India Summit” in New Delhi.

Earlier, the BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya last week said the site was not hacked.

While admitting that the site had experienced some sort of "transgression", Malviya said the site was down due to a "technical glitch", not hacking.

When the website was hacked, it came up with a meme featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi whose caption read “Brothers and sisters, I've fooled all of you. Brothers and sisters, we’ve fooled all of you. More to come! Many, many congratulations!”

Soon after, the website was shut down for maintenance. However, Twitterati did not miss the chance to poke fun at the party for not being able to restore the website.

Here are some of the reactions:
