Officers and search dogs on Sunday morning discovered a small child's body in a culvert near Spring Valley and Bowser roads, less than a mile from the Mathews' home. Sherin disappeared Oct. 7.
A police spokesman told the media that investigators have no reason to believe that the body recovered belongs to any other missing child.
The spokesman added that they are waiting for positive identification and for an autopsy to determine the reasons what killed the child.
He added that the girl’s parent have been identified.
The Texas Police have arrested Sherin’s father Wesley Mathews on charges of child abandonment and endangerment charges the same day the minor went missing. He is out of jail on bail.
Wesley had to surrender his passport and wear and electronic monitoring bracelet as part of bail condition.
Child Protective Services have taken custody of Sherin’s 4-year-old sister into custody and placed in foster care.
According to reports Mathews and his wife, Sini, had adopted Sherin about two years ago from an orphanage in India.

Sgt. Kevin Perlich, a spokesman for the Richardson Police Department quoting Mathews said that Sherin was malnourished and was on a special diet to gain weight.
“Sherin had to be fed whenever she was awake and she wasn't cooperating when her father tried to feed her,” added Perlich.
“We are verifying Wesley’s version,” added the Sergeant.
