New Delhi:
Top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Junaid Mattoo was on Friday gunned down by security forces during an encounter in Arwani village of Bijbihara in Anantnag District of south Kashmir, reports have said.
Mattoo was killed in a joint operation carried out by Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF to nab the terrorists. Matto along with two other local LeT militants was trapped for more than eight hours.
Arwani village was cordoned off by a joint team of Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF on inputs about the presence of LeT militants in the area on Friday morning.
Earlier on Friday, stone pelting incident and clashes were reported from the area. Mattoo was involved in an attack on a police patrol that left three cops dead last year. He is also suspected to have killed a policeman in Kulgam area of South Kashmir on Thursday afternoon.
