In the wake of severe delays in train operations, Indian Railways has decided to play video messages on platform information screens explaining why trains are running late, sources in the railways said.

A one-minute video clip appealing to passengers to be patient in the event of any train delay will be played on information screens at every railway station from this week, the sources said.

"Please be patient, your patience will make your future better" - this is the brief of the video.

Also, its audio, in which the narrator talks about the track maintenance work undertaken by the national transporter, will be played on loop across stations to maximise its reach, the sources said.

The narrative also apologises for the delays, but states that the track maintenance work will give passengers better travelling experience in the future.

According to official data, almost 30 per cent of trains are being delayed. The punctuality of mail and express trains in April 2017-March 2018 was 71.39 per cent as compared to 76.69 per cent in the corresponding period of 2016-2017, which is a fall of 5.30 per cent. In 2015-2016, 77.44 per cent trains ran on time.
