Chhattisgarh: Maoists target security forces five days ahead of PM Modi's visit to Bijapur, 2 DRG jawans killed

Two security personnel killed, 5 injured in IED blast in Chhattisgarh.

Two security personnel were killed and at least sight police jawans have suffered injuries in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast triggered by alleged CPI-Maoist cadres in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Monday.

The IED blast was triggered by the Maoist rebels only five days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the district.

Director General of Police, Naxal-operations, DM Awasthi confirmed the development.

According to inputs, the Maoists targeted the bus in which jawans were boarded. The jawans were returning to their base camp in Bijapur after conducting an anti-insurgency operation in Kuturu jungle.

The injured jawans have been identified as ASI Bhojrai Mourya, Manoj Wacham, Sukhram Mandawi, Masaram Madiam and Sukhnath Kumar.

Modi too woo backward caste communities will launch his government’s ambitious healthcare programme — Ayushman Bharat — from Bijapur.

He will also inaugurate a railway line and address a rally in the district.

The banned organisation after the announcement of Modi’s visit to the district had circulated pamphlets protesting the Prime Minister’s visit and have warned villagers from attending his event.
