New Delhi:

Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray offered an amount of Rs 1 crore for the construction of the grand Ram temple during his Ayodhya visit on Saturday. However, the chief minister clarified that the amount will not be given from the Maharashtra government but from his own trust.

Addressing a press conference in Ayodhya, Uddhav Thackeray said, "Today, I want to announce that not from the state govt, but from my trust, I offer an amount of Rs 1 crore." The chief minister further stated that he is on a visit to Ayodhya to seek blessings of Ram Lalla.

Thackeray also said, "I have with me today several members of my 'Bhagwa' family. It is my third visit in last 1.5 years. I will also offer prayers today." On the occasion, he also reiterated that Shiv Sena has parted its way from BJP and not from Hindutva. "Hindutva and BJP are two different things," he added.

It is to be noted that this is Uddhav Thackeray's first visit to Ayodhya after becoming Maharashtra Chief Minister. Thackeray took the oath as Maharashtra Chief Minister on November 28, 2019. Coming back to his Ayodhya visit, Uddhav Thackeray was accompanied by his son Aaditya Thackeray - tourism minister of Maharashtra.

Later, in the day, Uddhav Thackeray will offer prayers at the Ram Lalla temple at Ramjanambhoomi and Hanumangarhi to mark the competition of his 100 days in office. It is worth mentioning here that the Shiv Sena president cancelled his programme to attend ‘aarti’ on the banks of Sarayu River due to a novel coronavirus outbreak.
