Union minister Uma Bharti led a special cleanliness drive conducted by district-level officers at the Kedarghat, Manikarnika and Jad Bharat ghat here.
On the occasion, Bharti, the Union Minister for water resources, river development and ganga rejuvenation, said the cleanliness fortnight was launched to “maintain purity” of the Ganga river.
Asserting on people’s participation for keeping Ganga clean, she said the works for cleaning of the river is being carried out swiftly.
Bharti said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released a budget of Rs 1,000 crore for Namami Gange project.

Under the Ganga cleanliness campaign, rivulets which merge into the Ganga will also be cleaned. Besides this, drains would be made for household waste water, she said.
A nursery of one lakh plants have been developed in Dharasu range for planting of saplings along the Ganga river, the minister said. Bharti also instructed the district officals to conduct cleanliness campaigns time-to-time to keep the Ganga river clean.
