'Fundamentally Discriminatory’: UN Human Rights Body On Citizenship Act

The United Nations' human rights body on Friday voiced concern over India's new citizenship law, terming it "fundamentally discriminatory" in nature. US, UK Issue Travel Advisories Amid Violence In Northeast Over New Citizenship Act

Amid ongoing protests over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019, the United States and United Kingdom on Friday issued travel advisories asking their citizens to "exercise caution" while their travel to the region. An advisory issued by the United Kingdom read, "Demonstrations against the Citizenship Amendment Bill are taking place in some parts of the country. There have been reports of violent protest in Northeast India, especially in Assam and Tripura. An indefinite curfew has been imposed in Guwahati and mobile internet services have been suspended in 10 districts of Assam." Read here…

Naga Students’ Federation Calls For Bandh Against Citizenship Act

The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has called a 6-hour bandh on Saturday to protest against the amended Citizenship Act. The bandh will begin at 6am. “Pursuant to the resolution adopted in the Emergency Executive Council Meeting of NSF, held on Friday at the Federation’s Headquarter, it was unanimously decided to call for a six-hour total bandh in all the Naga inhibited areas, starting from 6am to 12 noon on December 14,” a NSF statement said. Massive Fire At Mundka Furniture Factory In Delhi

A massive fire broke out in a plywood factory in Delhi's Mundka area on Saturday morning. At least 21 fire tenders were at the spot trying to douse the fire, which quickly spred to a bulb factory opposite to the plywood factory. As per the initial reports, there were no casualties due to the incident. A team of police also rushed to the spot and evacuated nearby buildings. Read here…
