At least 24 people were killed and several injured when a bus caught fire after colliding with a truck on NH 24 in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly on Monday. The injured were taken to a district hospital.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his heart-felt condolences on the killing of several people in the bus accident. He also announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of deceased, Rs 50,000 to severely injured and Rs 25,000 to those having minor injuries.
He has also ordered state Finance Minister Rajesh Agarwal to immediately visit Bareilly and take stock of the situation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled the loss of lives in the bus accident and sanctioned Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of those killed. He also announced Rs 50,000 for each of those injured in the collision.
“The bus accident in UP’s Bareilly is heart-rending. I condole the loss of lives. I pray that those injured recover at the earliest,†Modi said.

Additional SP Rahul Srivastav said that 22 bodies charred to death have not been identified and 15 injured were taken to the hospital. Accused truck driver is still absconding, he added.

The bodies are badly charred as the bus caught fire after colliding with the truck, said a senior level officer.
Earlier, Senior superintendent of Police (SSP) of Bareilly Joginder Kumar said, “We have recovered charred remains of around 10 passengers and our teams are trying to locate others.â€
