UP BJP MLA Surendra Singh does it again, says ‘prostitutes better than officials’

A day after asking his supporters to give government officials a “ghoosa” (punch) if they ask for “ghoos” (bribe), Uttar Pradesh BJP MLA Surendra Singh on Tuesday compared bureaucrats with prostitutes.

“Prostitutes are better than government officials; at least they take money and do their work and also dance on the stage. But these officials, even after taking money, don’t do their work. There is no guarantee that the work will be done,” Singh said at a public gathering.

The BJP lawmaker from Uttar Pradesh’s Balia is not new to the controversies. Earlier on Monday, he had asked his supporters to record a video of officials demanding bribe and “punch" them if they don’t agree to do your work. He added that if they still don’t agree, beat them with shoes.

After the BJP’s humiliating defeat in recent Kairana and Noorpur bypolls, the MLA had blamed ministers of the Yogi Adityanath government.

The lawmaker even openly supported his colleague and rape accused BJP lawmaker and Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

“I am speaking from a psychological point of view; no one can rape a mother of three children. It is not possible, this is a conspiracy against him (Sengar),” Singh had said defending Sengar.

BJP lawmakers are notorious for making absurd statements and this forced Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month to reprimand his party’s leaders.

“We make mistakes and give ‘masala’ to the media... as if we are great social scientists and experts to analyse issues...” Modi warned lawmakers and urged them not to “talk out of turn...it hurts the party image.”
