Uttar Pradesh Congress president Raj Babbar on Wednesday offered his resignation owing poll debacle in the state where party has won only seven seats.

Babbar said he failed to live up to the expectation as he was given the responsibility to which he did not fulfil.

“I could not live up to the expectation, I was given responsibility but I could not fulfil it, I accept it,”Raj Babbar, UP Congress President, said.

On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi had dubbed the party’s performance a little down and vowed that their fight against BJP’s ideology would continue. The Congress vice-president had blamed that BJP has used financial power and money in both the states.

While congratulating the BJP, he had said polarisation is one of the major reasons of their victory. "BJP won elections in UP, I'd like to congratulate them. Why they won it has multiple reasons, one being polarisation," he had said.
