A BJP candidate and an SP MLA have been booked for allegedly violating the model code of conduct as they went to file their nomination papers with hundreds of supporters in vehicles, leading to heavy traffic snarls in Amethi.

BJP nominee Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh, a former MLA from Tiloi, and Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Rakesh Pratap Singh, the sitting MLA from Gauriganj assembly segment in Amethi district, filed their nominations in respective courts on the premises of collectorate at Gauriganj.
