The Uttar Pradesh government is likely to enact a stringent law around the usage of loudspeakers in religious places in the state. The state govt has informed the Lucknow High court by presenting a proposal on this matter.

The Yogi Adityanath govt had filed a plea in the Lucknow bench of the High court to limit the usage of loudspeakers at religious places. In its last hearing on the matter, the court had sought a response from the govt. The next hearing on this plea shall be held on Nov 13.

Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam stoked a controversy over early morning Azaan (mosque prayer) while dubbing it as cacophonous and intimidation in nature. However, the Punjab and Haryana High court via its ruling said that Azaan (mosque prayer) is an important part of Islam is undoubtedly an integral part of Islam but it does not necessarily have to be blared through loudspeakers.
