UP polls: Mayawati promises reservations to Muslims, upper castes

Mayawati

Bahujan Samaj Party supremo and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati made a poll promise to the economically weak communities of forward castes, and minority groups, saying that reservation would be given to these sections if she returns to power.

It is being seen as an attempt to wean away the Muslim voters from the Samajwadi Party.

Addressing a massive rally, the stronghold of the Samajwadi Party, which had won all seven Assembly segments in the district in 2012, the BSP supremo warned people, saying that they should recognised “anti-reservation” and “anti-Dalit” character of the BJP.

“Let me warn you that the BJP, guided by the RSS, has a basic ideological agenda to put an end to caste-based reservations, which is the Constitutional right provided by Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar to Dalit, backward and oppressed sections of our society,” the BSP chief said.
