A 100-year-old woman died of trauma and pain after being raped by an inebriated youth in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut. The incident came to surface after villagers handed over the accused to the police on Monday.
According to police, the elderly women lived with her brother in Jaani village. The alleged rapist on late Sunday barged into the victim’s residence and sexually assaulted the elderly woman. Her brother and neighbours rushed for her rescue when she cried for help.
Police said, the youth accused of raping the elderly woman was nabbed by her brother and neighbours. The accused was handed over to police later.
The accused has been identified as Ankit Punia. According to villagers, Purnia after raping the elderly woman was trying to escape but he was overpowered by them.
The Uttar Pradesh police on complaint of the victim’s brother have lodged an FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The accused has also been charged of murder.
However, the accused Punia claimed to be innocent.
