Uttar Pradesh was yet to recover from the death of more than 70 children due to lack of oxygen within 72 hours at a government hospital in Gorakhpur district, a similar incident came into the surface at a state-run hospital in Farrukhabad district where at least 49 children died due to lack oxygen.
According to a government report, 49 children died at Ram Manohar Lohia Rajkiya Chikitsalay between July 20 and August 20 due to lack of oxygen and medical negligence.
The Farrukhabad Police have registered a case against the chief medical officer, chief medical surgeon and a few other doctors.
“Further actions will be taken as investigations proceed,” superintendent of police (SP) Farrukhabad Dayanand Mishra said.
An investigation was instigated by the district administration after media reported the death of children due to lack of medical negligence and lack of oxygen.
The district administration in their initial investigation has found that the children died due to lack of oxygen.
District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar said, “Stringent action will be taken against the culprits.”
He added, “A detailed investigation will be done to the death of children. An investigating focus will consider if the deaths occurred due to lack of oxygen or natural causes.”
