Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday has directed all district police chiefs to ensure the freedom of practising one’s religion is protected after a Hindu group warned schools in the state not to celebrate Christmas.

Additional director general of police (ADGP) Anand Kumar said, “We have directed the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Aligarh to take strict actions against anyone trying to prevent one right to practise one’s religion.”

The ADGP added that similar directives have been given to all state police chiefs.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) affiliated Hindu Jagran Manch on Sunday had issued a circular threatening schools in Aligarh against celebrating Christmas.

The circular warns the schools not to impose Christian celebrations on Hindu kids because these actions indirectly lead to religious conversion.

Hindu Jagran Manch Aligarh mahanagar president Sonu Savita talking to media said, “Such celebrations indirectly lead to religious conversion. Children’s mental conditions are also affected.”

He also said that they if schools do not stop celebrating Christmas in schools they will protest in large numbers.
