A journalist was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants in Kanpur’s Bilahaur area on Thursday evening.
The deceased journalist has been identified as Naveen Srivastava.
According to police, Srivastava was sitting at his hosiery shop when the assailants shot him from a close range. The criminals fled the spot after shooting him. “Criminal’s pumped in at least four bullets into Srivastava’s body,” said a senior police officer.
Police in their initial investigation have learnt that three to four armed criminals were involved in the attack, he added.
Uttar Pradesh Police assistant deputy general (ADGP) Law and Order said, “Special teams have been formed to nab the criminals at the earliest.”
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kanpur has been sent to the incident site, he added.

A senior police officer said, “The motive behind the murder will be clear once we nab the murderers.”

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the state's top cop to follow up the investigation.
