UP: Yogi Adityanath visits dust-storm affected people; announces ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh for kin of diseased

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday rushed back to his own state in the wake of a massive dust-storm, which claimed 73 lives on Wednesday.

“Agra: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath meets rain and dust storm affected people at a hospital,” ANI reported.

Yogi was addressing election rallies in Karnataka and cut short his tour after being slammed by the opposition parties for staying away from UP even after such disasters.

The chief minister reached the worst-hit Agra on Friday and visited the affected areas on Saturday morning.

Distributing the cheques to people affected by the dust-storm in Agra’s Fatehabad, Yogi said, “Relief has been provided to the affected. Kin of those who died have been given Rs 4 lakh as ex-gratia and the injured are given free treatment in hospitals.”

He has also taken an aerial survey of the areas that were affected by the storms. Later in the day, the UP CM left for Kanpur and other affected areas.

Earlier, the chief minister was scheduled to campaign in Karnataka ahead of the Karnataka Assembly Election on May 12.

Parts of western UP were battered in Wednesday's storm which also struck the adjoining Rajasthan districts.

Forty-three people died in Agra district alone. Altogether, 124 people were killed and over 300 others injured in five states due thunderstorms and lightning in the last two days, the Union Home Ministry said on Friday.
