New Delhi:

Pakistani actress Veena Malik, whose popularity got a push with her stint on Indian television shows, is receiving widespread backlash for posting a disrespectful tweet about Indian Air Force (IAF) Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman on Tuesday.

In her tweet today, Malik posted two before and after photographs of Varthaman, who was taken into custody by Pakistani Army, soon after his MiG-21 shot down its F-16 fighter jet in a fierce aerial combat over Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) on February 27.

While one of the pictures shows Abhinandan standing in front of an Indian fighter jet with pride and glory, another was from the time when he was captured, injured, blindfolded and handcuffed by the Pakistan military in February. "The picture says it all. Before and After! #PakistanAirForce," the actress captioned the photographs.

At the time of writing this article, the post had 2.9K likes, 699 retweets and more than 1.4K comments. The post saw angry and ridiculed reactions from Indian Twitter users. While some Twitterati took a dig at the current financial condition of Pakistan, others trolled Prime Minister Imran Khan for the country's relationship with China.

Here is how Indian Twitterati react:

However, this is not the first time that Malik is getting trolled for her distasteful tweets on Varthaman. In February, she tweeted an image of blood-covered and blindfolded Abhinandan with the message - "Abhi Abhi Tu Ayo Ho...Achi Mehmaan Nawazi Ho GI Aap Ki".

A day after the actress again took to Twitter, posting a screenshot of a video which shows Abhinandan drinking tea and responding to questions by a Pakistani army official. The tweet was accompanied by "Leave Everything....!!! I never seen this style of Mostache Before (sic)". Another screenshot of a Google search for different styles of moustaches was also included in the tweet.

For all the obvious reasons, Malik faced criticism with Indians from different walks of life bashing her for such insensible posts.

In response to her tweet in February, Bollywood actress Swara Bhasker wrote, "Veena ji.. Shame on you & ur sick mindset. Your glee is just gross! Our officer is a hero- brave, gracious & dignified in the face of capture. At least some decency from that major in you army who was questioning #WingCommanderAbhinandan or the many Pakistanis suing 4 peace #sick. (sic)".

Re-tweeting Veena's tweet, "Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!" fame star Saumya Tandon said that she can't imagine how someone "can tweet like this".

A fleet of Pakistani fighter jets had unsuccessfully targeted various military installations in Jammu and Kashmir on February 27, a day after India carried out air strikes on a terrorist training camp deep inside Pakistan's Balakot.

The Balakot airstrike was carried out in response to the "heinous and cowardly" Pulwama terror attack by Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed on February 14 which left 40 CRPF personnel dead and dozens of others injured.

On August 14, Varthaman along with four other IAF pilots and one lady offier, who were part of the mission to strike a Jaish-e-Mohammad camp inside Pakistan, has been conferred with Vir Chakra, India's third-highest war time gallantry medal, for their bravery, valour and patriotism.
