Naidu sends privilege notice against Rahul Gandhi over ‘Jaitlie’ tweet to LS Speaker

After examining the privilege notice against Rahul Gandhi, Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday referred it to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.

Naidu referred the notice keeping in view the fact that Rahul Gandhi is a Member of the Lok Sabha.  Further actions would be taken by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.

BJP MP Bhupender Yadav had given a notice in the Upper House under Rule 187 and alleged that the Congress President had "intentionally, maliciously and disrespectfully twisted" name of Jaitley in a tweet.

Rahul Gandhi, in his December 27 tweet, had written Jaitley as ‘Jaitlie’ after the minister’s explanation over PM Modi’s “colluding with Pakistan” remarks against ex-PM Manmohan Singh.

“Dear Mr Jaitlie – thank you for reminding India that our PM never means what he says or says what he means. #BJPLies,” Gandhi wrote on Twitter.

The tweet referred to Arun Jaitley’s clarification to break the deadlock in the Parliament over PM Modi’s allegations against Manmohan Singh and other Congress leaders in a rally during Gujarat assembly elections.

Modi had said that Manmohan Singh, former Vice President Hamid Ansari and other Congress leaders were conspiring with Pakistan to win the Gujarat assembly election.

The Congress party and Manmohan Singh demanded PM Modi’s apology for spreading “falsehood”.

However, PM Modi didn’t tender his apology but Arun Jaitley read a clarification in the Rajya Sabha and said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi “did not question, nor did he mean to question, the commitment to this nation” of either Manmohan Singh or Hamid Ansari.
