The Election Commission on Thursday announced the schedule and dates for the Vice-Presidential elections. The last date of filing the nominations is July 18. The election is set to take place on August 5, 2017. Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi announced the dates and schedule for the Vice-Presidential at a press conference on Thursday. 

The term of present incumbent Hamid Ansari, who has held the post for two consecutive terms, is coming to an end on 10 August.

The incumbent vice-president Hamid Ansari was elected as the 13th vice president and ex officio chairman of Rajya Sabha from August 11, 2007 to August 10, 2012. He was re-elected as 14th vice president and ex officio chairman of Rajya Sabha on August 11, 2012.

Meanwhile, Opposition Presidential candidate Meira Kumar filed her nomination papers for the July 27 election for the country’s top office on Wednesday.
